Alternative communication and visual tools

We might specialist in exercise, but we do incorporate alternative communication strategies and visual tools to support our clients!

Lots of our clients communicate in different ways, follow instructions in different ways, or just prefer visuals to aid their understanding, and to help them know what to expect.

We have a number of basic communication boards in both our gym and studio room, this allows for simple communication for those that can't verbalise their needs, or may have forgotten their tablet with their communication tools.

We have completed a key word sign course, which is an offshoot of Auslan, and supports our communication as it provides a handsign for key words paired with our verbal words.

We include both picture or written schedules for those who need, or would prefer, which outlines what they'll be doing in the session, so that they know what is coming and what they need to do.

We have visual prompts such as foot markers and directional markers, as well as various visuals to guide effort and intensity depending on the exercise or activity.

All these different visual and communication strategies help create a better learning environment, rapport, and allow clients to have a voice, which also encourages better engagement and less behavioural challenges.

If you require something additional, our team are always open to implementing different strategies and would be more than happy to discuss with you!
